Make Your Web Directory Submission Successful
Adding your website to a free web directory is not the same as having it added to a search engine. Search engines send automatic crawlers to search the world wide web on a regular basis and your site is bound to be picked up and ranked at some point sooner or later depending on the amount of marketing effort you put into the site. Web directories, on the other hand, require manual submission and those submissions are often reviewed manually as well. The fact that you have submitted your website to a directory does not mean you will automatically be included. Here are some tips for getting your site included in web directory of your choice.
Read the Rules and Do Your Research
It should go without saying, but read the rules on the SEO friendly web directory you are considering. The rules in each directory are different and so are the terms of inclusion. Some directories will allow you to write longer descriptions of your site than others, so you need to be prepared to create different materials for each site you approach.
The most important part of this preparation is, of course, searching the directory to find the category most appropriate for your website. The directory owner will not let you choose a category at random. You will be asked to prove that your site belongs. If it doesn’t, the link simply won’t be published.
Write Your Description
The descriptions you write for a search engine and web directory will be very different, especially because web directories are more limited in terms of length than search engines. You’ll need to determine how long your description can be, which usually varies from 7-200 words, and tailor your wording so that it is as descriptive as possible while adhering to the site’s guidelines. It may help to write a series of descriptions of vary lengths and saving them in a text document so that you can cut and paste them later.
